Veterinarian

A veterinarian is a doctor that specializes in the medical diagnosis, treatment of illnesses and dysfunctions that afflict animals. Most veterinarians deal with domesticated animals. Veterinarians can work on livestock, racehorses, zoo creatures, or household pets. Veterinarians can work in research laboratories, and animal hospitals and clinics. In addition to the diagnosing and treating of animal illness; veterinarians reset fractured bones, administer vaccines, medicate, dress and treat wounds, perform surgery, and advise owners about animal feeding, behavior, and breeding.

Physicians

Medicine is a profession that has developed a highly professionalized character to the nature of the healthcare profession. This trend began in the 19th century and is a product of the scientific revolution dating back to the 17th century. Medicine is a highly academic profession and the hours, effort, and money required to become a physician is among the most rigorous training of all professions. Before the acceptance of the fact that germs cause illness, and not evil spirits. Anyone could call themselves a physician. Medicine was crude and unrefined; and the low average life expectancy of the past reflects that salient fact. A physician is a doctor who diagnoses, prescribes, and administers treatments to patients suffering from physical injury or illness. Doctors are graduates of medical schools, receiving two types of doctoral titles after completion of their respective degrees: MD or medical doctor and DO or doctor of osteopathic medicine. MD’s are also known as allopathic physicians. Dentists are a type of physician and they earn a different title after completion of school of dentistry: DMD or Dental Medical Doctor. Both types of physicians use all accepted forms of medical treatment including drugs and surgery. However, there are a few differences between an DO and an MD. Physicians who get their DO degree are more focused on the anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system, holistic patient care, and preventative medicine. This all-angles approach to patient care is part of the reason about half of Does practice general medicine, family care, or general pediatrics. At the point of graduation of medical school, residency training all physicians are able to practice general forms of medical practice. Physicians can also choose to undergo more specialized training with the incentive of more compensation and better ability to care for more specialized ailments. There are literally hundreds, maybe even thousands of types of specialized physicians and are not limited to the following: anesthesiology, general medicine, general internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, and surgery. Each type of physician has his or her own specialty.

The modern medical field can be confusing with all of the different medical doctors specialized in different fields of study. The type of doctor that one may visit depends on the ailment that affects a certain part of the body. A good primary care doctor can do general diagnoses and treat many common diseases but some diseases are best if left in the care of a specialist. This organization of medical professionals has been subject to debate and criticism because if a doctor is too specialized in one part of the human, that doctor might lose touch with the holistic effects of his or her treatments. The body’s systems are all interlinked and all medicine is therefore essentially holistic. The following common types of specialized doctors will be discussed in some detail.

Hospitals

Hospitals are centers of health care that provide treatment to patients that have specialized staff and equipment. Patients that visit the hospital are usually there for a short period of time. There are several different types of hospitals based on the institution’s organization, specialty, and purpose. Hospitals can be publicly funded by the government, non-profit organizations, philanthropic individuals, or religious organizations. Hospitals are with medical professionals like doctors, nurses, and surgeons. Hospitals generally have more expensive equipment and offer a variety of different care within its walls. Different types of hospitals serve different needs to patients and the greater community.
